LighterLife for Men is a weight-management programme for men aged between 16 and 75 with a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or above. Typically, this means you’re one stone or more overweight.

LighterLife for Men has two options – Total and Lite – depending on your starting BMI.

Both Total and Lite are low enough in carbohydrate and calories to encourage your body into switching to its natural fat-burning mode. Plus, they provide  the nutrients you need for good health, so you lose weight safely.

Being overweight matters

Total science: firing up the fat burning process

  1. Your body prefers to use carbohydrates as its main source of energy, but when you're on Total or Lite, you're taking in less energy and fewer carbohydrates than usual. This can kick-start your body into burning your excess fat for energy instead.
  2. When your body breaks down its fat stores, the fatty acids that are released can be used by your liver to produce ketones. These are small, water-soluble molecules which are your brain's main energy source when you’re burning fat for fuel.
  3. Most people produce ketones at some point in the day, often after sleeping, but when ketone levels are much higher than usual – as they can be on Total or Lite – you're said to be in ketosis.
  4. Ketosis can suppress appetite, and if you've got fewer hunger pangs, you're more likely to stick to the programme and achieve your weight-loss goals. Cunning, eh?
